This month's Main Story is on Genta Corporation. Genta is a leading developer of antisense technology targeting BCL-2 -- a substance overexpressed on 70% of cancers that enables them to avoid natural apoptosis, or programmed cell death. Clinical trials have shown Genta's lead product, Genasense, is capable of down-regulating BCL-2, enhancing the effectiveness of a variety of already-approved chemotherapy drugs. The company also has aptamer and antiandrogenic compounds in development.
