This month's Main Story is a brief exploration of Discovery Labs (NASDAQ:DSCO). This company makes a synthetic version of the surfactant that allows the alveoli in your lungs to work. Initially targeted at premature infants, this drug may well have the ability to treat adult diseases like ARDS and COPD. Early data is promising and the company says they'll be able to go to an NDA in 2003.

In a slight departure, we also have a Special Section in this month's NIBM Newsletter. It is the follow-up to last month's article on drugs for mental diseases. In this month's version, we examine a sliver of the scientific basis of these psychotropic medications. We compare different classes of medications together. We briefly map current medications and discuss the future of these medications.
The following is an outline of this issue of the NIBM Newsletter.
