| Introgen Therapeutics (NASDAQ:INGN) is an
Austin, Texas biotechnology company developing gene-based therapeutics for treating
cancer. The company is focused on developing gene therapies for the treatment of cancer
alone or in combination with other "conventional" treatments. Introgen was the first company to initiate clinical testing with an in vivo
(direct administration to the patient) gene drug in 1995. Introgens lead product,
Advexin, is in pivotal trials for treating head and neck cancer, and is headed towards
pivotal trials for non-small cell lung cancer. Advexin uses an adenovirus to delivery a
complete copy of the p53 gene to cells. When delivered to tumor cells, the complete p53
gene is thought to be instrumental in helping them die. |
